DAOstack is designed to catalyze the future of collaboration. It enables large groups of people to cooperate like never before, using blockchain-based decentralized governance to make excellent decisions together. DAOstack is sometimes called an operating system for collective intelligence, or a Wordpress for DAOs.
The platform, which launches in spring 2018, includes a modular smart contract framework, a friendly javascript developer environment, and an intuitive user interface that allows anyone to create or participate in a decentralized organization without technical knowledge. Most of the expected proceeds from the DAOstack token sale will be reserved for management by a DAO fund, in which the community of GEN token and reputation holders will create proposals for the allocation of resources.
What Is DAOstack
DAOstack is an operating system for a new form of organization: the DAO. Decentralized Autonomous Organizations have captured the imagination of the best minds in the blockchain space, but despite their promise have yet remained an abstract idea.
One key point of failure is the lack of solid framework for decentralized blockchain governance. At the base of the DAO stack, Arc1 is an open, universal framework of smart contracts for decentralized governance and collective value management over the blockchain. Just as HTTP allows the creation and interoperability of web sites and web applications, DAOstack allows the creation and interoper ability of web companies, collaboration apps and DAOs, aswellas the alignment of their interests. The result is a new web of open collaboration, in which collectives can self-organize around shared goals and values, beyond pure economic growth. We believe this will be a critical step in the evolution of society toward a more cooperative and sustainable future.
Legacy Organizations.
Cooperation of agents increases their efficiency with respect to external competing market forces. This is the basic origin of the company and the reason organizations want to grow. However, coordination of large number of agents is difficult and costly, and that is why organizations cannot grow indefinitely.
When growing, organizations need more rigid structure in place, and thus face a growing challenge to:
- maintain agility with respect to rapidly changing conditions
- preserve alignment of interests, trust and engagement among their members. In short, the larger an organization is, the more internal friction it needs to cope with; the smaller it is, the more external competition is predominant. The actual size of a company is generally the sweet spot balancing between these two forces.
Once in a while, the introduction ofa new technology or paradigm shift enables the reduction of coordinational cost, pushing up the scaleand efficiency of organizations to new levels. It triggersatransition in the landscape of work and business, and thereafter a social change too, as was exactly the case with the invention of crowdsourcing and the Internet itself.
DAOstack Use Cases
In the broadest sense, DAOstack is useful any time there is a need to coordinate a large group of people to make decisions collectively. So, by thinking about a few different types of decisions a group might need to make, we can imagine several categories of use cases.
- Collaboration to Produce an Outcome (“Work”) - In cases in which the goal is to develop or deliver products and services — roughly speaking, a decentralized “company” — the decisions that need to be made often concern how to value individual contributions, and how to budget for projects and other purchases
- Asset Management - These types of collectives make decisions primarily about the management of assets and the allocation of funds.
- Curation - Curation networks leverage the wisdom of the crowd to rank the subjective quality of objects - All of the Above In practice, many DAOs will include decision-making in more than one category.
The Genesis DAO
- The further buildout of components of the DAO stack, including Arc and Arc.js
- Support for/investments in collaborative applications (dApps) to be integrated into the DAO stack
- Support for/investments in organizations built on the DAO stack
DAOstack runs on GEN
GEN is the native token of the DAOstack platform. Basic operations across the DAOstack ecosystem – such as promoting proposals – will require the spending or holding of GEN. GEN will be distributed to contributors of value through the DAOstack framework itself, incentivizing development, promotion and adoption
