Wemark - Blockchain-based Marketplace for Digital Content, Starting with Photos

https://www.wemark.com/

What is Wemark

Wemark is a growing community of leading independent photographers licensing their photos directly to customers, with no agency involved.

We’re a group of creators, marketers, designers and engineers, with a huge passion of transforming the way creators distribute their content and how they get paid for it.

Wemark platform uses blockchain technology to allow real peer-to-peer transactions between creators and users - ensuring security, authenticity and most of all, transparency.

Wemark is backed by leading global investors, and its advisory board includes some of the top names in stock photography, blockchain technology and online marketplaces.

Marketing is only a measure I use to promote products, businesses and causes I like. I’m a terrible marketer if I don’t believe in what I’m trying to sell. marketplaces were a dream come true. I saw marketplaces as a great way to put great products and services in front of a massive audience that is already interested in what they’re offering, and help both sides to find each other and transact directly. Marketing has evolved - communities of sellers can now do marketing together. The demand-side, guided by ratings, reviews and discovery tools, rewards the better offering with higher earnings.

Started Wemark on April 2015, providing marketplace sellers with a set of marketing tools to help them reach broader audiences and grow their micro businesses. Our technology was used across tens of marketplaces, helping sellers from 6 different continents to create marketing campaigns and increase their sales.

But there was one thing we couldn't ignore - marketplaces are becoming too strong. It’s called network effects - lots of sellers attract lots of customers, and lots of customers attract lots of sellers. It’s a never ending cycle that keeps Airbnb, Ebay, and Shutterstock the industry leaders in their spaces for so many years.

For Wemark, marketplaces were a dream come true. I saw marketplaces as a great way to put great products and services in front of a massive audience that is already interested in what they’re offering, and help both sides to find each other and transact directly. Marketing has evolved — communities of sellers can now do marketing together. The demand-side, guided by ratings, reviews and discovery tools, rewards the better offering with higher earnings. The future was bright.

Conclusion

Managing user identities in a decentralized architecture has different approaches than in the traditional architecture of client-server. You can use in-browser wallets/vaults, your own private Ethereum clients or your own wallet to sign transactions on behalf of the user. Each one of the solutions above has it’s own tradeoffs, so it really depends on what you would like to achieve. I would love to hear your thoughts about this concern and share what you’ve picked for your use case.
